The Moving Comedies are a series of six new comedies, which are all linked by various themes of transport, movement and presented in a variety of new and innovative media.
The series is intended to be an exploration of different ways of presenting comedy using a variety of new media and old media in unconventional ways.
The first episode was 230 Miles of Love, the world’s first satcom (a comedy that is broadcast by satellite navigation systems) which was both about and set on the M6 motorway in the UK.
The second episode has only recently begun and so can’t be discussed at any real length at the moment. Suffice to say it’s never been done before and, I think, it’s pretty fecking funny. The only review I can offer of it at the moment is a lawyer who I had to run everything past (lawyers cost a fortune, who knew?) who said, “this is truly the oddest thing I have ever been asked to comment on in the course of a 20 year professional career.” I think that’s a resounding thumbs-up.
The next three episodes are in the planning stage.
The final show is going to be the first ever SETIcom. That’s a Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence Comedy, so-called because the show is about our place within the solar system and is going to be broadcast in the direction of the nearest habitable regions of space, in the hope of stimulating a discussion with non-terrestrial forms of intelligence.
